Just be aware that while it is a MORE serious story, it's not completely void of ridiculousness. Mechanically I prefer GTA5, but GTA4 absolutely has the better story and atmosphere to me. I still have fond memories of GTA4, warts and all. In the one round I achieved victory, I reached space well after that. Looking at the achievements, you can apparently get good enough to win the game before you hit the 'War' era, which seems cool. RNG might be a factor at times though (if I had to guess), but the game isn't long enough to the point where I'd give a damn. When you hit the 'War' era (early 1900s - mid 1900s), certain tiles turn radioactive and you can't build on them until later when you unlock an ability to cleanse that tile. (There is a counter that decreases on the war tiles - and you get an ability to lessen that counter too.) Time passes with every turn and at certain points you reach different historical eras, which all have their own catchy music. You can get a spear ability to kill the beasts, but you have to wait out the war tiles. There aren't conflicts in the proper sense, but beast tiles and war tiles sometimes spawn that block your match path. (If you run out, the game is over.) You can unlock extra abilities the further you progress via people/culture points, most of which cost industry points to use. You 'match' food cards, industry cards, and people cards to build their respective points. The entire point of the game is to make it into space starting from a primitive age. Not too hard when you figure out the gameplay loop, but pretty damn fun too - especially for a Match 3 game. Got done playing a couple of rounds on Easy difficulty and enjoyed it enough to throw out a recommendation here. Still plenty readable and understandable though. It appears to be a Chinese game that just got an English translation a couple of updates ago, so expect the wording to not be perfect. This is a Match 3 game but with a Civilization builder theme to it.
